The reconstruction of the city's Fire Station #2 on Patch Street will be done utilizing energy efficient technologies and alternative energy heat sources.

After a meeting initiated by Alderperson Amy Heart,  Becher Hoppe architects incorporated solar hot water heating, in-floor radiant heat, and other green building techniques into the remodel plans.

The design team to redesign Fire Station No. 2 will include City staff, Becher Hoppe and its sub-consultants, Midwest Renewable Energy Association, and Focus on Energy.

The public was invited to share their vision for a sustainable Stevens Point at the Eco-Municipality Kick Off event on Tuesday, October 30, 2007. The Kick-Off featured keynote speaker Mary Rehwald, who sits on the Ashland City Council and is an integral part Ashland's sustainability movement and their adoption of the eco-municipality resolution.

From the results of the event, the Task Force will work to develop policy recommendations and community projects. If you are interested in working on one of the ideas listed, contact the mayor's office at 715-346-1570 to find out how you can get involved.
