September 18, 2007 - This fall, the City of Stevens Point decided to take the first step in leading by example. The reconstruction of the city's Fire Station #2 on Patch Street will be done utilizing energy efficient technologies and alternative energy heat sources.

After a meeting initiated by Alderperson Amy Heart,  Becher Hoppe architects incorporated solar hot water heating, in-floor radiant heat, and other green building techniques into the remodel plans.

The design team to redesign Fire Station No. 2 will include City staff, Becher Hoppe and its sub-consultants, Midwest Renewable Energy Association, and Focus on Energy.
